Individual Membership Process:

UGAT invites interested individuals to become regular members of UGAT. 

 

Regular members are those who have either earned undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in Anthropology, or are deemed acceptable by the Committee on Membership by reason of some special contribution to anthropology, anthropological research or the promotion of anthropological activities. All members are required to pay the membership fee.

Membership includes a free copy of the Aghamtao journal, which can be claimed during the annual conference. It also entitles a discount on the registration fee for the annual conference, as well as access to the member's features of UGAT website, as well as access announcements and other research opportunities and invitations. Members can also be nominated by UGAT for the VAM Excellence in Research Award.

 

Responsibilities of Members:

  • contribute to the attainment of the goals of UGAT;

  • attend annual conferences and business meetings;

  • pay the membership fees;

  • elect the members of the Board of Directors;

  • abide by the Code of Ethics; and,

  • perform other duties as the General Assembly may decide for implementation.

 

Institutional Membership Process

UGAT also invites government organizations, non-government organizations, and academic institutions (with or without an anthropology program) to become institutional members. Student organizations are likewise invited to apply.

Membership Benefits:

  • Professional affiliation with the only professional organization of anthropologists in the Philippines, as well as association with the Philippine Social Science Council and with the World Council of Anthropological Associations that is part of World Anthropological Union.

  • Privileges in posting events in UGAT’s social media pages (pending the approval of the Board), as well as regularly updates on UGAT and UGAT-affiliated events, both national and international, including conferences, grants and scholarships.

  • Discounted rates for capacity building, training, and workshops conducted by UGAT upon invitation of the member institution, as well as a 20% discount rate on conference fee to at most ten members of the institution whether on-site or early registration. 

  • A plaque of membership, two (2) copies of AghamTao Journal for the current year, and a separate listing on the official UGAT website with a description of the institutions and a link to their social media platforms.

Obligations and Responsibilities:

  • Institutional members shall abide by the rules and policies of UGAT. 

  • It is the duty of the member institution to make sure that they align with the ethical guidelines and principles of the anthropological practice. Any institution with members who are found to have unethical anthropological practice may not be considered for membership eligibility.

  • UGAT reserves the right to revoke institutional membership based on unethical action by the institution and its members, without refund. This will be discussed in a board meeting and written down as a board resolution.

  • Institutional members shall ask for permission in written form addressed to the UGAT President and Public Relations Committee Head for the use of the UGAT logo for promotion purposes. A written response from UGAT will be sent to the member institution for the consent or disapproval of the use of UGAT logo.

Institutions that are interested to apply must send a letter of intent (LOI), addressed to the Secretary of the Board (who will send it to the UGAT Board) and the Membership Committee Head.

 

Upon UGAT Board Members evaluation of LOI, it will formally accept or deny the institution’s membership. If accepted, the institution shall proceed with the payment.​ The professional institutional membership fee is Php 10,000 while student organizations’ membership fee is Php 5,000. Membership is renewed annually.

 

The member institution shall receive a plaque of membership and journal copies within a month of the receipt of payment, except by force majeure (including weather extremes, pandemics and social unrest).
