Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) has been organizing an annual Peace Conference since 2015 in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft fürInternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). In the past five years, we have generated a good number of paper presentations, mounted art and theatre workshops, organized Indigenous Peoples’ Fora, and established a good network of peacebuilders from different universities and institutions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
This year, the 6th Mindanao Peace Studies Conference, with the theme Peace for Mindanao in the New Normal, will focus on the new normal as an integral element to moving forward for Peace, through a series of webinars on November 23-26, 2020. This will carry on the discussions of real-world events, the socio-economic and cultural asymmetries brought by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the battle on global hunger, violent extremism and terrorism, short-comings in governance, internally displaced people, and gender bias or racism, carrying on the pursuit for peacebuilding.
